Ducati’s partnership with Gresini has been a crucial one in recent seasons, and with Pramac leaving for Yamaha in 2025, extending their agreement was vital, and I’ll tell you why.

Enea Bastianini secured Gresini’s first MotoGP wins in 2022 and since then the team’s stature has risen year after year. Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio won three races in 2023 (two sprints and the Qatar Grand Prix), before the team pulled off a huge coup by adding eight-time world champion Marc Marquez to its ranks for 2024. Gresini is yet to be victorious so far in 2024 although there’s still plenty of time for that to change.

But aside from on track success, which Ducati will want so long as it doesn’t mean consistently taking points away from its factory team, the partnership Ducati has with Gresini will take on greater importance since it’s losing Pramac to Yamaha in 2025 and beyond.

Gresini will potentially have the chance of receiving a full factory up-to-date bike if it can out-perform VR46 in the coming seasons, which would increase its chances of being at the front more often.

Speaking about the new deal and the addition of Fermin Aldeguer to the Gresini squad, Gigi Dall’Igna said: “We’re very happy to extend our partnership with the Gresini family until 2026. The team led by Nadia Padovani has managed to achieve great goals in recent years while showing all its strength and professionalism.

“Team Gresini Racing also brought several riders – some of them very young – to winning ways. This is why we’re sure that this is the ideal squad to welcome Fermín Aldeguer and to accompany him in his MotoGP debut season. I’d like to thank once again Nadia and the whole Gresini family. Looking forward to more exciting times together!”

For the Gresini outfit, securing a new two-year deal with Ducati will also enable them to continue attracting top riders given Ducati’s dominance in MotoGP right now.

“Family spirit is the concept our team is based upon, and it applies to our whole world championship history,” added Nadia Padovani. “It’s a great pleasure for us to welcome one of the most promising young talents in the series and our goal will be to protect him and help him make his way to the type of results that distinguish us.

“He’ll be with us for the next two seasons and Ducati will also stay in our garage until at least 2026. We’re doubly happy, so welcome to the team Fermín!”
