DocBike raises over £8,000 in annual charity ride-out
The annual DocBike charity ride-out was hosted in Dorset at the end of September, with a group of around 400 riders raising over £8,000.
DocBike hosted its annual charity ride at the end of September, with hundreds of bikers coming together to raise over £8,000.
The ride took place in Dorset on Sunday 25 September, and saw a total of 400 motorcycle riders make the journey to the end-point at Henstridge Airfield via either a 35-mile route from West Bay Esplanade or a 30-mile route from Alderholt.
The two convoys were led by Dr. Ian Mew, DocBike co-founder and trustee, and Mark Williams, a critical care paramedic, who are both Dorset-based.
Bikers arrived at Henstridge Airfield to be welcomed by crowds, able to visit a number of stalls, and even to enjoy to some live music courtesy of The Hardcore Troubadours.
There was also the opportunity for DocBike, and Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, to engage with riders and try to help them improve their own riding skills, as well as raising further awareness for the work of both groups.
Dr. Ian Mew said in a DocBike release: “Whilst this event helps to raise much-needed funds for the charity, the support for what we do from the motorcycling community and beyond means so much more. Motorcyclists are statistically the most vulnerable road users, being 56 times more likely to be killed per mile travelled than when in a car.
“The work of the charity to reduce motorcycle collisions whilst being able to provide life-saving critical care to anyone who needs it (not just motorcyclists), forms the cornerstones of our work and we are immensely grateful to every person and organisation across the county for their unwavering support.”
