A Ducati 916 is about to go up for auction with H&H at the National Motorcycle Museum Sale, and with an estimate of between £5,500 and £6,500, it looks like the best value 916 you can buy right now.
The bike is listed on the auction catalogue as a Bipotso (dual seat) although it’s wearing the seat unit from a Monoposto (single seat) and has since had the passenger footpegs removed. Other additions include a Termignoni exhaust system (obvs!), an uprated ECU with Ultimap Eprom, and the aforementioned Tecnosel single seat. Now, we know Ducatisti like their 916s to be as they rolled out the factory, and although it sounds like this one isn’t, most of the original parts to return to stock will be included with the machine.
With that in mind, the £5,500 to £6,500 auction estimate for this example seems to be very competitive indeed, as similar examples on the market today, with milage and history like this bike, are changing hands for between £7,500 and £10,000.
The low estimate doesn’t seem to be because the 1998 bike you see here is unloved. Quite the opposite, in fact, as the auction listing confirms it has had new belts, a new clutch, an oil and filter change, new brake and clutch fluids, new air filters and new Pirelli Rosso 2 front and rear tyres. It’ll come with a bundle of paperwork, and invoices from Moto Rapido and It’s even got a Datatool alarm fitted - so make sure you have a trickle charger handy if you do bag the bike.
So, to sum it up, no, there doesn’t seem to be a catch, and we know, the estimate means nothing, and we’ll be keeping an eye on the auction to see what it actually sells for.
