Hammer time! Super-rare classic bike auction
Properly eclectic selection of 100 saucy classic machines on sale in Germany
To Tegernsee, south of Munich in Germany, where the local auction house is selling off a hugely interesting collection of classic bikes this weekend. There’s 100 machines on offer, and some of the bikes are extremely rare, from long-defunct brands like Hercules, Condor, DKW (below), Zundapp, Kriedler and Adler. There are also bikes from BMW, Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki though – so there’s something for everyone.
A few models caught our eye in the listings – the Honda CX500 Turbo up top is a peach, with 60,000km on the clocks for starters. Plus, there are several Hercules W2000 Wankel-powered bikes from the 1970s in the collection, and a load of classic scooters too, including an Achilles 175, and a few Vespas. Honda is well represented, with no fewer than seven CX500s, including two turbo versions, as well as a brace of CB125 twins and a faired Monkey bike. The Suzuki RE5 shows the owner of the collection had a big interest in Wankel engines – and it also looks to be in gorgeous condition, with just 439 miles on the clock...
