Harley-Davidson Recalling Low Rider Models Due to Front Brake Issue
Around 15,778 Harley-Davidson Low Rider ST models are being recalled due to front brake safety issues
Harley-Davidson has recalled around 739 Low Rider El Diablo models produced in 2022, while 15,039 Low Rider ST models are being recalled due to faulty front brake lines.
Harley-Davidson filed for the recall report on 9 October, with the mass Low Rider ST recall ranging from 21 November 2021 to 6 August 2024. The Low Rider El Diable models recalled are all 2022 versions of the bike.
“Contact between the brake lines and the fuel tank, over time, could lead to a breach in the brake lines and a loss of brake fluid. If brake fluid loss remains undetected, front braking may be compromised, increasing the risk of a crash. This concern does not affect the functioning of the rear brakes.” said Harley-Davidson in a safety recall report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The recall report also said: "The Harley-Davidson Technical Subcommittee (TSC) was made aware of a potential issue on a Softail motorcycle due to a field report citing a "wear mark" allegedly caused by a brake line rubbing against a fuel tank. 07/25/2024 through 08/26/2024 - The TSC met two times to review additional information."
Harley-Davidson made all its dealership networks aware of the issues between 14-18 October.
Owners of the affected 2022 Low Rider El Diablo motorcycles and those who bought Low Rider STs between 2022 and 2024 will be instructed to contact their local Harley dealer to arrange for recall service.
Technicians will then analyse their brake lines, checking for bends and any contact with the fuel tank. If the issue is present, a recall kit with replacement parts will be provided and installed by an authorised Harley dealer at no charge to the customer.
