UK Motorcycle Sales | Strong start sees 2022 sales surge clear of 2021
National lockdown measures 12 months ago mean sales of motorcycles in the UK have boomed for the first two months of 2022
Sales of motorcycles in the UK have made a strong start in 2022 with figures showing a 70% increase overall after the first two months of the year.
Taking advantage of the unaffected social conditions a year after the UK entered a third national lockdown due to COVID-19 for part of January and the entirety of February, it means sales figures in 2022 have galloped ahead in traditionally slow months.
Coming ahead of the latest new registration switch in March, sales of motorcycles were up 81.7% from 2,868 units to 5,212.
All sectors saw at least double - in some cases triple - digit growth year-on-year, which after a strong January too means overall sales are 11,399 units - 70.1% on the 6,702 units sold in 2021 over the first two months.
The growth was stimulated further by gains on the electric front with sales up 79.6%, mostly for scooters, namely one of the best-selling models of the month in total, the Super Soco CPx.

Broken down into brand, Honda enjoyed a very strong start to the year with 1,340 of its models being shifted and the Honda PCX reigning supreme as the month’s best-selling model, deposing the 2021 best-seller outright, the Yamaha NMax.
Behind Honda, sales were more competitively fought with a number of notable manufacturers making strides into the top ten… and others missing out.
Yamaha held onto its traditional second place spot but by just three units from small-capacity specialists Lexmoto, while Triumph - helped by the Trident 660 - held firm in fourth from BMW and KTM.
Royal Enfield enjoyed a stellar month, stimulated by the ongoing success of the Meteor 350 and Interceptor 650 - while Vmoto, parent company of Super Soco, were eighth on the strength of the CPx, which accounted for 125 of its 148 sales. Aprilia and SYM rounded out the top ten.
It means the likes of Kawasaki and Suzuki failed to make the overall leaderboard.
Elsewhere, another notable name on the best-sellers list was the Honda NT 1100, which out-sold the BMW R 1250 GS and GS Adventure to be the best-selling 1000cc-plus motorcycle of February.
