Luca Salvadori lost his life during an International Road Racing Championship event in Germany last year, after veering off the circuit after a rider fell in front of him, and his father has shared further details about the accident.

Maurizio Salvadori, who took to his son’s YouTube channel to conduct a sit down interview detailing the information, admitted rules were not followed correctly and that is part of the reason for taking his son’s death to court.

During the road race, Salvadori was following another rider closely before that same rider was violently highsided from his machine. Salvadori had little time to adjust as he made contact with the body of the rider in front before crashing at the side of the road.

The Italian slid into straw-bales which were lightly protecting trees, but that came about after barriers were not fitted correctly according to his father.

Maurizio said: “Road races are licensed to be organised by the very precise rules of the international federation, but these rules were not followed during Luca’s race. I was forced to see the images of the accident as part of the action we are taking forward with the German court.

“We thought we would show you the precise dynamics of the accident through a precise 3D construction. Luca closely follows the rider in front of him. He enters the corner at 250kmph (155mph). Suddenly he skids, goes into the sky and takes a very strange trajectory. He falls in front of Luca who is forced to move to his left and on to the grass.

“At this point, the bike falls and hits the barriers first. It moves them as they are not fixed per the regulations which opens a gap where Luca lands directly on straw-bale. Unfortunately, the impact is at 102kmph (63mph). It must be said that these air barriers are not approved.

“They were not fixed to the ground as per the regulations and it seems as though they are barriers used for cycling. It must be added that straw bales which are mechanically pressed, not like the ones in the past and have been banned since 2018. I think there is little to add to this situation.”

During the same interview, his father also detailed a conversation which took place soon before his son’s tragic death which explained why Luca was cremated at the scene of his birth.

Maurizio added: “This is one of life’s cruel jokes because in one of the last conversations with Luca I told him I wanted to be cremated, and I had given him in a very lighthearted way, almost jokingly, some instructions regarding my future. On that occasion, Luca said it was a good choice and that I [he] would do it too. That’s how this decision came about.

“I thought it would be right to collect all of Luca’s memorabilia, his last two bikes including the one that was in the accident and will be completely rebuilt, his suits, his helmets, his trophies - his memories in a place that was suited to who he was and what he did. I thought that the right place would be the Trident Motorsport Factory where we prepare single-seater racing cars that compete in various championships.”

The court appeal against the safety element and rules being followed comes after a similar incident where Shane ‘Shakey’ Bryne, who suffered a career-ending accident in 2018, collided with barriers that were not the ones that should have been used at Snetterton.
