Marc Marquez Explains Gresini Middle Finger Salute
Marc Marquez made his debut for the factory Ducati team in Barcelona and gave his old team the middle finger, but he’s since clarified the gesture
Rider changes happen every season in any motorcycle championship and MotoGP is no exception. However, it’s not often the biggest name in the sport, Marc Marquez in this instance, that changes teams twice in as many years.
But that’s what Marc Marquez has done for 2025 after he left Honda - all six of his MotoGP titles came with the Japanese brand - for Gresini Racing last season. Now, Marquez is back in full factory team colours after hopping aboard the latest-spec Desmosedici GP 25, while also testing this year’s title-winning GP24 in the Barcelona test.
But in said debut for the Lenovo Ducati team, Marquez was seen flipping off his old team when returning to his garage box.
But Marquez claims it was all a joke as he gave his brother Alex, who ended the test fastest, his dad and members of the team a middle finger gesture.
“Team Gresini is always joking!" said Marquez. “On the last run they were laughing outside of the garage because they said to me on Sunday, ‘We will finish in front of you every race!
"And already in the first test, they finished in front of me with Alex! Even my father was there with them! So my father is going to the fastest one! For that reason, I said ‘f**k off!’. But it was just a joke!”
Marquez finished the one-day test in fourth, one place behind Bagnaia who missed out on a third consecutive MotoGP title at the weekend despite winning both the sprint and Grand Prix, instead that honour went to Jorge Martin who has since left the Italian brand for Aprilia.
