Beta Explorer electric dirt bike announced
The Beta Explorer electric dirt bike has a 16.7bhp motor, a top speed of 40mph and recharges in around three hours
ELECTRIC dirt bike fans in the USA can now get their hands on a new off-road steed, as the Beta Explorer is revealed.
The new bike collaboration between Beta USA and Apollo Moto, and is designed to provide adults of all ages with a fun, quiet, simple, and easy-to-ride off-road riding experience. It’s not totally clear if the model will find its way out of the US and across the pond to Europe and the UK, although looking at the spec and features, we can only hope it does!
The bike is around 30 percent smaller than a traditional dirt bike, and features an 858mm seat height and featherweight ready-to-ride weight of just 68kg! Powering the diminutively sized machine is a 16.7bhp electric motor, that is fed by a 75v 35ah battery that is removable from the chassis in just one minute.
The Explorer has three speeds including casual, medium, and for a quick 10-second burst, "Rocket" mode. Casual mode provides the longest range of between 50-100 miles, while medium boasts roughly twice the speed and torque but with a reduced range of between 30-60 miles. There is also a reverse mode for backing up out of tight trails or roads.
The big question with any electric motorcycle, range aside, is how long it takes to recharge the battery. With a relatively small battery back, compared to a full-sized on-road electric bike, the Beta recharges relatively quickly, and when plugged into a domestic socket (no quick charging here) it’ll go from flat to full in around 3 hours. With its removable battery though, the Beta does give the rider to run multiple battery packs for a more continuous off-road riding experience.
The chassis of the bike boasts fully adjustable USD forks and a linkage rear shock which features adjustable compression, rebound, and spring preload. The braking system comprises hydraulic front and rear disc brakes which are 210m in diameter.
The Beta Explorer electric dirt bike will be landing in US Beta dealerships in October and will have a sticker price of $4,890.00 or around £4,000 - we are crossing everything that we get the chance to sample it here in the UK!
