Is Suzuki releasing a new DR Big styled V-Strom at EICMA?

A new EICMA teaser video has emerged revealing parts of an as yet unknown Suzuki motorcycle that is soon to be fully revealed.

Suzuki is the motorcycling king of going back to the future, with models such as the Katana released earlier this year.

After a rather cryptic teaser video a few days ago, a new video has emerged which actually has a motorcycle in it - instead of a man jogging through a woods and sipping some red vino.

What can we see from the second Suzuki teaser?

Well, one thing’s for sure, this is a new V-Strom. I think…

Many publications think it’s a new V-Strom 1000 - and whilst this isn’t incorrect - I’m placing my bets on a smaller capacity, off-road focused, true adventure machine based on the V-Strom chassis. Let me explain why.

Firstly, the biggest clue that a new V-Strom is coming is the large ‘V’ beam of light at the beginning of the clip. Sorry to state the obvious.

Then we can see an adjustable screen, large tank and sturdy hand guards, similar to that equipt on the DL1000 V-Strom.

Then we move to the right-hand engine casing, which has a thick rubber grip and a bash plate on the base. There are also some grippy off-road-focused foot pegs visible too.

At the risk of looking like a complete idiot, it’s worth mentioning that the size of the casing looks smaller than the conventional 1000cc V-twin embedded into the DL1000. This could mean the engine cases are new, or that the engine capacity is smaller - indicating a link to the DR 800S.

Lastly, the final shot shows a bright orange/red and white colour scheme. Potentially once more paying homage to the ‘80s Marlboro DR BIG’ which competed in the Dakar Rally.

That’s what I think anyway, but what about you?

Is this teased bike just a V-Strom DL1000 with a facelift and fancy paintwork? Or is it a throwback to the classic DR BIG?
