New Lighter 2025 Ducati Multistrada V2 Announced

Boasting the new 890 L-twin that was announced earlier this year, the new bike also features revised styling alongside reduced weight

Ducati has pulled the wraps off the third new model to utilise the new 890cc engine, a powerplant shared with the 2025 Panigale and Streetfighter V2. With its reduced mass, the 2025 Ducati Multistrada V2 becomes lighter than the outgoing model, with the Italian brand claiming it to now be the lightest in the segment.

The class-leading weight is what Ducati is leading with on the press release, but for me, the biggest news is the sheer amount of electronics and assistance systems the bike gains for 2025, especially if opting for the higher-spec Mulstrada V2 S. Over and above the now standard cornering ABS and traction control, like its much bigger sibling, the 2025 Multistrada V4 S, the Multistrada V2 S comes equipped with the semi-active Skyhook Suspension system from Showa, which also includes a clever minimum preload system, making it possible to lower the seat to 790mm while at a standstill.

On top of the minimum preload system, the bike also features a new look five-inch TFT dash within which there are five riding modes, Sport, Touring, Urban, Enduro and Wet. Dig deeper into the dash and you’ll find options to adjust the cornering ABS, Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) and Engine Brake Control (EBC). The new dash also features four TFT styles, Road, Road Pro and Rally, each offering a different style to the TFT and placing the most important information in the most prominent position.

The new engine for the Multistrada V2 has necessitated the use of a new monocoque frame, which suspends the engine as a stressed member. Bolted to the new monocoque is a steel trellis subframe, while the rear wheel is grasped by a cast aluminium swingarm. Thanks to the new frame, swingarm and subframe, the V2 tips the scales a full 18kg down on the outgoing model, boasting a ready-to-ride weight of 199kg for the stock Multistrada V2 and 202kg for the Multistrada V2 S. Rolling stock for both variants of the bike are aluminium cast rims with a 19 inch at the front and 17 inch at the rear.

The engine powering the new Multistrada V2 for 2025 has been a big talking point already this year when it took over as the powerplant of choice for the Panigale and Streetfighter V2. In those bikes, it meant a significant drop in peak power but an increase in torque and a reduction in weight. In the Multistrada V2 though, it’s much closer to the spec of the outgoing Testastretta engine in terms of peak power and torque. With it, the outgoing V2, last updated in 2022, made 113bhp at 9,000rpm and 69 lb ft at 6,750rpm. The new bike also boasts 113bhp, while torque is only slightly down on the old bike at 67lb ft.

Ignoring the numbers on the spec sheet though, the new engine should be very much at home in the new sporty tourer, thanks to the inclusion of variable valve timing. The clever technology manipulates the timing and lift of the spring-operated valves (sorry no Desmo here!) meaning that 70 per cent of the maximum torque is available at 3,500rpm, and between 3,500 and 11,000rpm the value never drops below 75 per cent of the peak number.
