2024 has well and truly been Pirelli’s year as its foray into supplying the Moto2 and Moto3 championships has led to lap records and improved overall race times at nearly every single round, of which there have been 15 so far.

But its success is also continuing to take place off-road as an 82nd motocross title was won, thanks to Jorge Prado, who, aboard his Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing bike, claimed the MXGP title win at Castille La Mancha GP in Spain.

The most popular tyre used in the MXGP world championship is the Pirelli Scorpion MX32, which Prado used throughout 2024. No other tyre company has more than 70 title wins, but Pirelli has now broken past the 80 championship barrier, and it did so in dominant fashion.

Riders using Pirelli tyres were able to generate a total of 19 Grand Prix wins out of 20, which is a 95 per cent success rate. Pirelli also secured 18 pole positions of 20, while also winning a stunning 37 out of 40 heats over the course of the 20 rounds.

Prado’s 2024 title win means he’s now become a four-time world champion, including twice in the MXGP category and twice in the lower MX2 class. Prado narrowly beat Slovenian Tim Gasjer.

As mentioned, Pirelli’s motocross success is just one area of motorsport where the Italian brand has been completely dominant in 2024, as they have taken over from Dunlop in Moto2 and Moto3, without looking back.

Overall race times have been shattered in 2024, with some races over 30 seconds quicker than a year ago, particularly in Moto3, while lap records have been smashed on plenty of occasions.

Along with Moto2, Moto3 and the MXGP categories, Pirelli is also the tyre supplier for the World Superbike Championship and the Formula One World Championship among many other four-wheeled championships. Pirelli isn’t, though, the tyre supplier for MotoGP as Michelin continues to operate as the lone tyre supplier, a deal that is contracted to go on until 2026.
