Jorge Martin debuts Alpinestars helmet for 2023 MotoGP championship
Alpinestars steps up to the big league in 2023, as Jorge Martin shows off his new 2023 crash helmet
PRAMAC Racing rider Jorge Martin has revealed his 2023 MotoGP helmet, as the Spaniard makes the switch from Shark to Alpinestars for the coming season.
Alpinestars is no stranger to manufacturing motorcycle helmets, although Martin’s new lid is the first time the firm has designed and built a specific lid for sports riding or racing. The Italian firm already has some off-road, enduro and adventure helmets in its range, although making a product that can excel at the very top of two-wheeled motorsport is a very different proposition.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the lid though after MotoGP retiree Andrea Dovizioso was snapped testing a pre-production model at the Misano MotoGP test. This is though the first time we’ve seen a full-finished and liveried-up version of the new lid.
In typical fashion, the lid is caked in graphics, decals, and sponsors, although we can still see some of the details of the lid beneath. It seems to feature a very large top-mounted cool air inlet, mounted right where the highest air pressure would be concentrated when the rider is fully tucked and riding at high speed. There is also a large frontally-mounted chin mount, which is flanked by what look like warm air exhausts on each side of the helmet. Another interesting design feature is a deeply scalloped opening to the lid, something that might have been done to improve the rider's body position and comfort when hanging off the side of the bike. The rear of the new Alpinestars helmet features the obligatory aerodynamic spoiler, helping to smooth the airflow off the rider’s head and down the back of the bike.
As yet, we have no public release information on the new lid, so can’t confirm the weight, interior details, model name or price of the new lid. We’ve reached out to Alpinestars for this though and will update this page when we have it.
