A Sporty Commuter… What is the New TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Trying to be?
Looking like it’s packed with a 400cc engine and plenty of speed, the 2025 TVS Apache is just your run-of-the-mill small-capacity bike that’s presented as a reliable commuter, with the addition of some very minor tweaks
The TVS Apache model first landed in 2020 and since then it has become a very popular commuting motorcycle in India, despite the naked sportbike vibes it just can’t help give off which has been taken a step further with the new model.
I mean, seriously, even the picture gives that impression away as the rider aboard the 2025 model is dragging his knee and riding with the modern style we see from so many professional racers.
But this bike is just a small-capacity, impressively cheap, entry-level bike for the current crop of young riders to cut their motorcycling teeth with. Featuring a very jazzy Smartxonnect dash, the updated TVS Apache RTR 160 4V includes turn-by-turn navigation, low fuel warning and assist, race telemetry, lean angle mode and a crash alert system.
But staying true to being a small-engined machine that’s hardly going to blow the competition away on track, it features a traditional steel frame and an air-cooled single-cylinder engine with a displacement of 160cc, which churns out 17bhp and 11Ib ft of torque. The engine is ‘Race Derived’, say TVS Motor, and it also includes a five-speed gearbox.
The bike features three rider modes including Sport, Rain and Urban, and it's this last one which gives the bike a very commuter feel. A new gold-anodized inverted fork is part of the bike’s new set-up while the angular fairing design and dual LED headlights have been updated from the previous model.
Since its inception the TVS Apache model was never branded as a high-performance motorcycle, instead focusing on aesthetic appearance and comfort, but that’s where the 2025 version comes in with a more modern and racy look.
Priced at just 140,000 Rupees, which is around £1,350, this is a very affordable naked-style motorcycle and a bargain if you ask me.
