Suzuki has taken the covers off its GSX-R1000R that will be used in the 2025 Suzuka 8 Hours this year, after confirming its participation with 100 per cent sustainable fuel.

At the end of 2022 Suzuki left MotoGP in a move that shocked the Grand Prix paddock and all other top-level two-wheel championships, and the Japanese brand has not put forward a race team in either MotoGP or World Superbike since.

However, it has continued racing in some capacities and the Suzuka 8 Hours race has been one of those. It will enter again in 2025 after unveiling a splashy blue and black colourway that also features green, yellow and white accents.

But more eye-catching than the colours is the fact Suzuki, which raced with 40 per cent bio–sourced fuel in 2024, will instead be competing at the famous endurance race with 100 per cent sustainable fuel. This begs the question: will the Japanese brand return to MotoGP in 2027 when the series also goes the way of running bikes with 100 per cent sustainable fuel?

That’s a question for another day, but what we do know is that Suzuki will test out that concept at this year’s Suzuka 8 Hours race which takes place between 1 and 3 August.

Tsuyoshi Tanaka, Suzuki’s Executive General Manager of Motorcycle Operations, said: “Last year, Team Suzuki CN Challenge completed the severe endurance racing of Suzuka 8 Hours while reducing environmental loads, and by doing so, we were able to take one significant step toward the future of internal combustion and motorsports.

“While overcoming the issues revealed from our previous activity, this year we will expand the use of sustainable items and make efforts for technology development toward taking on the challenge of further sustainability performance. We will challenge in this year’s Suzuka 8 Hours by going beyond the field of CN (Carbon Neutrality) and holding a theme of broadly reducing environmental loads.”
