A crash at the French round of the 2025 World Superbike has ruled Toprak Razgatlioglu out of this weekend’s Acerbis Italian WorldSBK round at Cremona.

Razgatlioglu’s participation in this weekend’s event was never a certainty after the Turkish rider sustained what can only be described as extensive injuries after a crash in FP3 less than a fortnight night ago. The crash meant the factory BMW rider, and winner of the previous 13 races, missed all the races in Magny-Cours, and left him with a partially collapsed lung.

He had initially pointed to wanting to return ready to fight at Cremona and protect the 55-point lead he’s built in the championship. He has though now confirmed he’s not taking part and is instead eyeing a return at the following round at Aragon.

“I would have loved to be back on track in Cremona, but the recovery of the mild pneumothorax is taking longer than I initially hoped,” he said.

“It’s important that I make a full recovery, and my goal now is to return on my BMW M1000RR at the next race weekend at MotorLand Aragon.

“But we need to wait and take it step by step. One thing is certain: as soon as possible and when my health allows, I will re-join the championship fight!

“I’ll be rooting for my team at Cremona, and I hope to see the BMW M1000RR at the front and on the podium.

“A big thanks to everyone who’s been supporting me through this tough time – we’ll see each other back on the track soon!”

Razgatlioglu’s nearest championship contenders are Ducati’s Nicolo Bulega and Alvaro Bautista, who sit on 310 and 243 points respectively. Should Bulega have a strong weekend in his home country (and at a circuit which is just 60km from his birthplace) Razgatlioglu’s lead in the championship could quickly vanish.

Standing in for Razgatlioglu this weekend will be the 2018 Superstock 1000 champion Markus Reiterberger.
