The collision happened at 1.19 pm, October 28, shortly after the bike was spotted with two males on board. Heading along Harrogate Road, and travelling towards the city centre, the police were authorised to give chase to the bike which, according to an appeal from West Yorkshire Police, then failed to stop.
Shortly after the green light was given to pursue the motorcycle, a crash occurred and the bike reportedly crashed into a red Vauxhall Corsa. Following the crash, both occupants of the bike were taken to hospital, with one reported to be suffering life-threatening injuries, and the other to be seriously injured. Thankfully no injuries to members of the public of the occupants of the car have been reported.
Following the incident, road closures were put in place and an investigation was started into the crash. West Yorkshire Police has also since referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which will conduct its own investigation into the incident.
West Yorkshire Police is now calling for people who may have witnessed the crash or those who may have dashcam footage of the moments leading up to it to come forward to assist with the investigation. People can get in touch on the phone via 101, quoting log reference 726 of 28 October.
