Updated BMW F900 R and XR announced for 2025
BMW has taken the winter to unleash new versions of its middleweight offerings, as the updated F900 R and F900 XR are revealed
BMW’s popular mid-weight F900 R and F900 XR machines gain a shot in the arm for 2025, with less weight, improved ergonomics, upgraded suspension and revised aerodynamics on the XR headlining the changes.
Covering off the changes that relate to both bikes, the F900’s chassis gains new upside-down forks with adjustable damping, rebound, and compression damping, as well as spring preload. Mated to the new suspension system are cast wheels that are stated to be 1.8kg lighter than before. More weight saving has been achieved thanks to a lithium battery that shaves off just under a kilo in weight. All told the changes to the platform contribute to an overall weight reduction across both models of 3kg. Both machines also feature integrated indicators which are carried within the rear light of the bike.
Mechanically the engine of both bikes is the same as before, meaning you get an 895cc parallel twin boasting 105 bhp. Aside from the latest Euro5+ certification, the new engine also gains a tweak to the ‘Dynamic’ riding mode which specifically relates to the traction control of the bike. Further electronic enhancements come in the form of ABS Pro on both the R and XR, which brings cornering-controlled ABS to the model as standard. Both bikes also feature engine drag torque control as standard. It prevents rear wheel spin or skidding caused by harsh downshifts and is especially handy in cold and wet weather. The engine drag control is on top of the existing assist/slipper clutch which is also fitted as standard.
Looking specifically at the F900 R, it features a tweaked riding position for 2024, with a more focused rider triangle which sees the rider sitting more over the front of the bike. The change has been achieved by moving the footrests further back while the handlebars are slightly further forward than before.
Switching focus to the F900 XR, it gains the shared updates from above but with the most noticeable change for 2025 being the tweak to the styling and revised front fairing. With one eye on boosting the long-distance comfort of the bike, BMW has revised the fairing improving the aerodynamics, while it has also redesigned the wind deflector. The changes are stated to reduce wind pressure on the rider, something BMW claims will result in significantly less helmet vibration at motorway speeds. It also gains new hand protectors to help divert some of the winter weather away from the rider's hands.
The F900 R will be available in three colours, Snapper Rocks Blue metallic, Triple Black, and a sporty edition finished in Lightwhite with Racing Blue metallic. The F900 XR will come in a basic version finished in red, a Triple Black option, and a sport version which will be finished in the Lightwhite with Racing Blue metallic as the abovementioned R model.
Pricing and availability for both bikes are as yet TBC.
