A 2022 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT was stolen from a driveway in Monks Risborough during the early hours of Sunday, 9 March.

The theft happened on the motorcycle owner’s property along Dovecote Close, a small village in Buckinghamshire. Anyone with details or knowledge of where the bike could be has been asked to come forward and contact the owner. The bike’s registration plate is LM22 TUH and the MOT is set to expire in June.

The latest theft in Buckinghamshire is one of many stolen motorcycles that have taken place in the county within the last 18 months. In fact, at least 20 bikes have reportedly been nicked in that time.

One of those bikes was a blood bike that was stolen by High Wycombe's Morrisons supermarket. Many of the thefts in the last 18 months have been reported in the High Wycombe area.

In May 2024 a list of the biggest motorcycle theft hotspots was released by Drivers Instructors Association, and while Buckinghamshire did not feature on the top ten list, other areas close to the county were ranked such as Greater London which was top of the list.

Nottinghamshire came in second while Yorkshire also proved to be a very big hotspot for motorcycle thieves with West Yorkshire ranked one spot ahead of South Yorkshire.

Motorcycles being stolen is sadly not a surprise, but the volume to which it has happened in the Buckinghamshire area is concerning.

20 stolen bikes in the space of 18 months in one county is a very big tally and Tom Banks, motoring expert at Go.Compare, was amazed at just how high the theft rate has risen, especially in London.

Banks said during his report last year: “Learning about which locations see the most thefts is also valuable for taking further safety measures, and our insights can hopefully help bike riders avoid an unfortunate situation. It’s astounding to see how high the theft ratio is in London compared to other areas of the UK, especially given that it has increased over the years.

“In the worst-case scenario of having your bike stolen, it’s important to contact the police without delay and file a report. Once you have full details of the situation and a crime reference number, you should check your policy coverage and contact your insurance provider to start the claim process.”
