Bikers Lifestyle Dissolved Following £10,000 Fine and DVSA Prosecution

You may remember the Company Bikers Lifestyle, which was fined for selling "catastrophically” unsafe motorcycle helmets - well, the company is no more.

If you cast your mind back to February this year, you may remember a company called Bikers Lifestyle hitting the news - and for all the wrong reasons.

It was the focus of a DVSA investigation, and was subsequently prosecuted at Willesden Magistrates Court and ordered to pay over £10,000 in fines and costs.

Well, some good news off the back of that work has arrived in my inbox this morning, as the company has officially been dissolved according to Companies House.

As well as selling dangerous helmets, DVSA successfully prosecuted Bikers Lifestyle Ltd for selling motorcycle helmets that failed to meet the required UK safety standards for eye protection. According to the GOV.UK website, tests revealed that three out of four helmets from the company failed to meet safety requirements catastrophically, with one helmet recording results that indicated a 100 per cent risk of fatality in a collision.

DVSA’s Market Surveillance Unit carried out the tests at an independent laboratory that specialises in motorcycle helmet testing.

The magistrates concluded that there was a high degree of culpability and determined that there was a high risk of harm to consumers. Bikers Lifestyle was also forced to remove all non-compliant products from its range. While the Biker Lifestyle website is still live, as far as we can see, every single product listed on it shows the words “Sold Out” alongside the listing, which hope means they have been scrapped and recycled.

Speaking about the news, Paul Varnsverry, Technical Director, PVA PPE Group, said:

"The prosecution of Bikers Lifestyle Limited was vital, given the serious nature of its conduct. It's unclear whether the financial burden of the fine, legal costs, and customer reimbursements led to the company’s dissolution, or if liquidation was used as a means to evade payment. In a similar case involving motorcycle clothing, directors were personally required to settle penalties or face imprisonment. It remains to be seen whether the director in this case will be recalled to court to pay up or face custodial consequences.

"There is a growing problem of rogue traders selling unsafe products via social media. Trading Standards have intervened in some cases, ordering recalls of garments falsely claiming CE certification, offering ineffective impact protectors, or marketing hoodies as containing Kevlar when they did not. However, consumers must also remain vigilant. The safest option is to avoid purchasing motorcycle gear from sellers on social media or e-commerce platforms unless they are long-established, reputable retailers with a verifiable physical presence."
