Busy EICMA Continues for Honda with New EV Fun And Urban Concepts
The new EV Fun Concept is Honda’s first foray into the electric sports motorcycle range, and it's being backed up by a new Urban Concept
If you thought Honda was done showcasing its long line of impressive models for 2025 at EICMA, think again as the Japanese brand has two new electric models coming very soon.
We’ve seen the new NC750X, GB350S, XL750 Transalp, CL500 and the CRF300 Rally amongst others hit the EICMA floor already in Milan, but Honda has taken the covers off two EV motorcycles which are set to arrive on the market next summer.
The new EV Fun Concept marks Honda’s first-ever attempts to produce a sporty electric motorcycle, and includes a very tasty ‘naked’ appearance with a built-in battery. The EV Urban Concept is just that, a motorcycle looking to take its glamour to the street, and it’s Honda’s vision of electric mobility going forward. It features a battery pack developed in-house.
Honda is aiming to achieve carbon neutrality through all its products by 2050, and while that’s 25 years away, this is certainly a start in that direction. Honda also wants to achieve carbon neutrality for all of its motorcycle products in the 2040s. Furthermore, the new EV Fun and Urban concepts are the beginning of Honda’s plans to introduce 30 electric models globally by 2030.
In some ways the EV Fun and Urban look like a traditional fuel-injected motorcycle, but it takes no effort to spot the biggest difference which is to do with the battery pack which replaces a traditional engine.
The seat, I must say, doesn’t look like the comfiest thing in the world, but I’m not going to judge it too harshly based on its first appearance because some elements of the bike, most notably the rear wheels look very nice indeed.
What I do like in particular is the handlebars which also give it a nice naked motorcycle feel, while the dash appears to be nice and wide.
Honda claims the EV Fun model will have a high level of “riding, turning and stopping” and the battery will be compatible with a CCS2 quick charger - the same function compatible with automobiles. It has also been developed to prioritise the balance between lightweight and quick charging performance, as well as to provide a cruising range of over 100km (62 miles).
