Guy Martin’s latest film shows him breaking another speed record
The trailer for the latest in the Guy Martin Speed series has landed and shows the journey the ex-TT racer and TV personality took to drive the fastest tractor on the planet
GUY MARTIN’S latest film in the Speed series is about to be aired and the trailer shows some of what it took to create the 1,000hp, 2,500Nm beast.
Guy is no stranger to going fast, the truck mechanic turned TT racer has spent most of his life hurtling around the road racing courses of the world in search of the top step of the podium. In more recent years he found fame as an unlikely but likeable TV presenter and set about trying to break as many speed records in as many weird and wonderful scenarios as he could.
Guy’s latest film, imaginatively called ‘The World’s Fastest Tractor’, sees Guy and a team of mechanics and specialists from British agricultural machine giant JCB, turning a JCB Fastrac into a world record breaking machine.
The vehicle uses many standard parts that can be picked up on the JCB production line, although some parts were used from other makes of JCB machine to help improve the team’s chances. The engine is a JCB 7.2-litre, six-cylinder unit, pushing out a staggering 1,000hp and 2,500Nm of torque. To help get all the power they needed for the run from the engine, they improved valve seats, uprated conrods and auxiliary piston cooling. The latter was designed to cope with the increased heat and stresses the record attempt would create.
So far in the series, Guy has raced gravity-powered go-karts and sleds, rode a modified motorcross bike across water, raced a suped-up hovercraft and cycled at more than 100mph on a push bike. Oh and he holds the record for the biggest wall of death ride ever. I think he needs a cuppa after all that!
The show will be aired this Sunday on Channel 4 at 9pm and will be available on All 4.
