Is Marquez starting to feel a little heat from Lorenzo?
Tempers fray at Repsol Honda as Marc Marquez rages at Jorge Lorenzo in practice for the Catalunya MotoGP... and so it begins..
IS THE HONEYMOON over for Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez at Repsol Honda...? In fairness, if these two 'frenemies' were ever on a honeymoon, it was always separate beds and probably for a green card. No love lost here.
Fortunately for Marquez, he hasn't had to worry much about Lorenzo because - as has been widely reported - the three-time World Champion is not having the easiest of transitions on a Honda RC213V which has been developed around the team leader, who many have pointed out is an unusual specimen of a racer.
However, with Lorenzo heading out to Japan and making it clear he needs a bit of assistance to bring the bike back towards more his style - at least so Honda can recover some success on its huge financial investment in prising him from Ducati - there is talk that Marquez might need to cede a little bit of influence for the greater good.
With Lorenzo reaching Q2 for the first time this year in the Catalunya MotoGP en route to tenth on the grid, it seems tempers are beginning to fray in the heat of battle if the fist-waving international symbol for 'WTF?' from Marquez is anything to go by in FP3.
It's going to take quite a effort for Lorenzo to really get on terms with Marquez quickly, but you have to believe that if and when it happens, it won't be as compliant a relationship as it was with Dani 'nice but slower' Pedrosa.
