New 250cc sports bike from Hero
Could we soon see it in the UK?
HERO has unveiled five new models in India including a 250cc sports bike.
The single-cylinder HX250R makes 31hp and comes equipped with combined ABS, a six-speed gearbox and under-seat exhaust. Kerb weight is 139kg.
That makes the HX250R 5hp more powerful than Honda's CBR250R and 28kg lighter.
Although the new models are destined for the Indian market, there has been speculation Hero MotoCorp could also have plans to expand into Europe. The Indian firm holds a near 50% share in Erik Buell Racing (EBR), which recently opened premises in Holland. EBR has already announced it will be the exclusive distributor of Hero products in North America from this summer, so it may be only a matter of time before we see a similar move in European.
Hero MotoCorp is the largest two-wheeled manufacturer in India, producing more than six million two-wheelers annually. Last year the firm celebrated its 50 millionth unit.
The firms also unveiled a 150cc liquid-cooled turbo diesel scooter concept called the RNT, making 13.5hp and 25ft.lb of torque, and featuring a six-speed gearbox.
Other new models include an 111cc scooter called the Dash.
The Leap is a ‘petrol-hybrid’ scooter using a fuel-injected 125cc to make 11hp, with a top speed of 62mph.
Meanwhile the firm's Extreme commuter motorcycle has been given a refresh and an upgraded engine, now making 15.2hp and mated to a five-speed gearbox.
