Honda is celebrating one of Japan’s most famous exports in 2025, as a working motorcycle inspired by the Pokemon character Koraidon is revealed.

The Pokemon (which is a colloquially shortened version of ‘Pocket Monsters’) that Honda has turned into a motorcycle is Koraidon, meaning it is a ‘Paradox Pokémon’ and introduced in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet series. It’s a fighting/dragon-type Pokemon, standing 2.5 metres tall and weighing a hefty 303kg. In the Pokemon Scarlet video game, Koraidon travels with the main character, evolving a raft or special powers along the way, such as standing upright, running on all fours and even gliding in the sky.

Honda has looked to replicate some of those powers with its Koraidon Project motorcycle, with the bike said to be able to stand upright, thanks to self-balance technology, while its ‘face’ is claimed to change expression as the speed of the bike changes.

While this looks like a fun project to hook in a load of young fans, there is some big technology behind it. Most notable is the use of Honda’s Riding Assist which debuted at CES in 2017. At CES the system was fitted to a modified NC750X, which could autonomously manoeuvre its steering angle and modulate forward and reverse motion to maintain its vertical balance. It could even ‘follow’ a human, and was shown (video below) moving under its own steam and completely without assistance.

The Koraidon Pokemon motorcycle will now be going on display at the Honda Welcome Plaza Aoyama between March 7 and 9. More information can be found on the official website.
