Kawasaki Reveals Whacky Corleo Robotic Horse

Nope, it’s not April 1st, and yes, Kawasaki really has put a lot of time and effort into creating the Corleo robotic - and rideable - horse/bike/thing-a-me-bob

Kawasaki is showcasing a new personal mobility project at the 2025 World Expo (Osaka, Japan) this year, as the Corleo ridable quadruped concept is revealed to the world.

Looking like a cross between one of those Boston Dynamics four-legged robots and a Pokemon character, the Corleo is claimed to be "Fun to Ride" in the same way that Kawasaki’s powered two-wheelers are.

Sitting on four robotic legs, the front and rear ‘limbs’ are independent of each other, meaning the rear of the Corleo can squat thanks to a pivot-point at the hips. The action is said to enable the Corleo to absorb shocks during walking and running. It's also claimed to give the machine a kind of self-levelling feature, handy when moving up inclines.

The Corleo is controlled by the rider's body like a conventional motorcycle, with the weight of the rider shifting fore and aft, left and right. The movements are detected by the machine, which is said to be able to react accordingly.

As you’d expect for such a futuristic machine, Corleo is hydrogen-powered, although instead of using hydrogen fuel cell technology, this horse has an internal combustion engine at its heart. Kawasaki states that a dinky 150cc four-stroke engine, which is fuelled via hydrogen canisters, is featured, which generates the electricity to power the systems that control the machine.

But as you can probably guess, this is all pie in the sky for now, as the Corleo is a very far-fetched concept showing how the future of personal transport could look in years to come. I wouldn’t go selling your Z900 to make room in your stable just yet.
