KTM Announces New Widescreen TFT Dash

Bigger is better for KTM, as it introduces one of the widest motorcycle TFTs we’ve ever seen

KTM’s 2025 announcements continue at pace this week, although it’s not a bike getting its moment in the spotlight today, but two new touchscreen TFT displays.

The new systems take KTM’s Human Motorcycle Interface (HMI) to “another level” according to the press release, and comprise the V80 vertical device and H88 horizontal system. Joining the two new displays are updated switchgear and a new connectivity unit, which will begin debuting on selected 2025 models.

Headlining the two new systems in the inclusion of touchscreen technology, which is just really beginning to gain a foothold in the two-wheeled segment. The system KTM has used is said to be a “newly developed inductive touchscreen” which boasts anti-glare, anti-fingerprint, and anti-reflex coatings. The coatings are said to make the TFT more visible from a variety of angles, while the colour screen now provides 256,000 colours, up from the drab 65,000 the previous TFT could handle.

Due to the size of both the V80 and H88, the system should allow the rider a much higher degree of flexibility than before, with KTM stating that a configurable split-screen mode is possible, along with five different layouts to choose from.

Each new device will now be finding its way onto specific “premium models” within the KTM range, with the marketing images that accompany the press release pointing to the H88 landing on the firm’s sportier bikes, while the more spacious-looking V80 will arrive on the travel and adventure machines. That’s a move that makes total sense to us and means the travel bikes in the range can run larger more detailed mapping functions, while the sportier stuff gets a sleeker, more streamlined device.

Joining the two new TFTs is a completely revised switchgear system, which we already had a look at when the images of the KTM 1390 Super Adventure AMT images were released. It looks much more simple than the current system, which has a mind-boggling array of buttons and joysticks, some of which are annoyingly tucked away from view. The new switchcubes features a dedicated button for switching ride modes, along with a five-way joystick, back button, new cruise control buttons, and the associated buttons and paddles for the aforementioned AMT-equipped bikes.

The final element of point with the new KTM electronics is the introduction of an all-new Computer Control Unit (CCU) which has a claimed 32GB of storage, 3GB of RAM and runs on the Android Automotive operating system. This allows, among other things, connection to GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi-enabled devices. The inclusion of the system should, in the future, allow software updates to be downloaded over-the-air, although until then you’ll still need to pop to your nearest dealership.
