Unless you’ve been living under a rock in the last few months, you would have heard about KTM’s ongoing financial problems, however, a positive update about its MotoGP project has been made, with work starting on the new RC16 machines next Monday.

KTM’s technical chief Wolfgang Felber confirmed the news to Speedweek, in which he said everything regarding the MotoGP project is going ahead as planned.

The Austrian brand is currently undergoing a restructuring process following a financial crisis that is believed to have resulted in debts of nearly €3 billion. But after a first creditors’ meeting last month, which stated that a withdrawal from MotoGP is “planned” for 2026, KTM has confirmed nothing has changed for this year.

Acting on a 100-point-plan (I’ll link to that story here) to cut down spending due to the brand’s financial troubles, which also includes scaling back its factory involvement in other areas, KTM’s two factory-spec teams in 2025 include Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM), while Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini conclude the Tech3 line-up.

Felber said: “As far as preparations for the new season are concerned, everything is currently going as normal. In recent years we have trimmed all processes so that we build the new machines in the third week of the year.

“It will be the same in 2025. Next Monday we will start rebuilding all the motorcycles. Everything is timed so that at the end of week three we pack the boxes for the big test in Sepang. From then on the bikes are on the road for a long time. The vehicles will only arrive in Munderfing again for the European season opener in Jerez.”

The 2025 MotoGP season is set to get underway on 2 March at Buriram, Thailand, with pre-season testing happening next month at Sepang and the above-mentioned Chang International Circuit in Buriram.
