The Ducati GP6 was a memorable bike for the Italian manufacturer, as it served as the title-winning package in 2007 for Australian rider Casey Stoner, which was Ducati’s first MotoGP crown.

It’s also the bike which Capirossi sealed his final MotoGP win at the Japanese Grand Prix, where he also secured pole position. This particular model is just one of six Desmosedici GP6 machines made across four seasons of premier class racing.

Capirossi’s race-winning bike was collected from the Ducati factory in 2007 and still features the season-finale Valencia scrutineer label intact.

The LC2 (Loris Capirossi 2) GP6 bike was the latest version of the Desmosedici with a 990 cc V4 engine and produced approximately 250bhp, which pushed the bike to over 198mph at top speed.

Given its success, the GP6 is an extremely precious model for Ducati and therefore very sought after. According to the auctioneers of this bike, it could be sold for a figure between $400,000 and $800,000 dollars (roughly £314,430 and £630,000).

The bike is being auctioned by Sotheby’s in New York and it follows two other sought after Ducati MotoGP bikes that have gone up for auction in recent months.

In August, Iconic Auctioneers made available the Ducati Desmosedici GP3 with which Loris Capirossi won the 2003 Barcelona-Catalunya race, a season where the Italian finished fourth place in the overall standings.

Up for auction at the same time also the Ducati Desmosedici GP7 bike which Stoner became world champion in 2007, the first of two MotoGP titles for Stoner as he later clinched the 2011 championship with Repsol Honda.

The GP3 that was ridden by Capirossi was sold for £201,250, while the Desmosedici GP7 was sold for £402,500.
