Rare Race-Winning Moto2 Bike Collection is up for Sale
A collection of Moto2 bikes, ridden by Tom Luthi and Fonsi Nieto among others have been made available as part of a rare collection
The Moto2 collection features race-winning Moriwaki MD600 motorcycles ridden by a host of riders including two-time series runner-up Tom Luthi, while all the bikes feature 600cc Honda CBR600RR engines and chassis developed by independent teams.
The Moriwaki MD600 motorcycles were specifically developed for Moto2, a category introduced in 2010 to replace the iconic 250cc two-strokes series. As you would expect from bikes used at the highest level of racing, there’s no shortage of top-spec components as the bikes include Ohlins suspension, Brembo brakes, and Marchesini magnesium wheels.
The biggest name, outside of Fonsi Nieto to have ridden one of these bikes is Luthi who was a Moto2 stalwart. But the Swiss rider, who eventually made his way to MotoGP, is not the only premier class rider to have ridden one of these special bikes, as one of the Holiday Gym Team bikes was raced by Xavier Simeon.
The Moriwaki MD600 machines began a huge swing in terms of new innovations and developments for Moto2 bikes, which preceded the dominant era of manufacturers like Kalex.
These bikes maintain technical peculiarities that make them unique compared to the current Moto2 machines, such as steel brake discs - which eventually became a restriction imposed to control category costs, which is in contrast to the carbon brakes now found in MotoGP.
The sale is not just motorcycles, though, as a large stock of spare parts including engines, radiators, swingarms, and bodywork, which the seller claims is enough equipment for five racing seasons. All the bikes and parts are said to be in perfect condition, according to the seller. They are also ready for track use or can be used as a showpiece to form a private collection.
The collection is being sold in the Netherlands and can be found here, with each bike valued between €25,000 and €45,000 (roughly £20,700-£37,300).
