Dubai Police go full on Star Wars with crazy flying bike

The Hoverbike eVTOL requires no licence to fly and no certification – although we’re not sure we’d like those unguarded blades spinning round behind us!

THE DUBAI POLICE force has added a futuristic flying ‘bike’ to their fleet of superbikes and supercars and have even filmed the vehicle being ridden (or is that flown??) and posted it on their Twitter page!

Dubai’s boys in blue aren’t newcomers to the world of crazy modes of transport, the garages look more like a car show than a police compound. They’ve got Ducatis, Hondas, Bugattis, Aston Martins and Lamboghinis galore. But this new flying bike is the maddest vehicle yet.

Built by Californian based, but Russian owned, tech firm Hoversurf, the Hoverbike has an estimated price tag of £50k, can top 40mph and fly for 20 minutes on a single charge.

This may sound all well and good in theory but, anyone who has owned one of the tiny drones you get at Christmas will know, they aren’t very easy to fly. And crash, a lot. Often quite spectacularly. I really wouldn’t like to see one of these lose control and head into a crowded area!

The Hoverbike isn’t the only crazy bike the force has unveiled, here’s their 120+mph electric motorcycle. With hub-steering and Ducati XDiavel/Tron/Manga styling, it looks more like the kind of thing I’d ride – and is probably safer if things were to go wrong.
