Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid ABS Receives Second US Recall
Kawasaki’s Ninja 7 and Z7 Hybrid ABS models have been issued with a second recall in just three months, in the US
Kawasaki’s Ninja 7 and Z7 Hybrid models were issued with a stop sale, stop ride recall notice in the month September, but it’s happening again albeit for a different problem this time around.
The Ninja 7 Hybrid arrived in UK dealers in April this year, which was swiftly backed up by the arrival of the Z7 Hybrid model. But over in the US it appears as though more issues have been found with both bikes.
The issue this time is an incorrectly welded steering head-to-frame connection, and as a result of the faulty welding, the connection is at risk of cracking. If this were to happen it could cause a catastrophic failure, leading to a greater chance of crashing.
199 Z7 Hybrid ABS models have been diagnosed with the problem, says Kawasaki Motors Corp USA, while a further 100 Ninja 7 Hybrid ABS models have been affected by the issue.
The bikes with this issue were produced between 5 March and 1 April 2024, and the problem relates to parts and work performed by Kawasaki Motors itself. As a result of the faulty system found on these two models, Kawasaki Motors Corp USA has issued a stop sale, stop ride notice.
Dealers were immediately instructed to discontinue sales of both bikes, as well as submit product registrations for all bikes sold prior to the issuance of this stop sale notice. Kawasaki is expected to resolve the problem prior to the end of November. A separate notice to owners of Ninja 7 and Z7 Hybrid models has been sent, instructing customers not to ride their bikes until further notice because of this issue.
The first recall that affected both models in the US surrounded an ECU issue which meant the electronic shift control could inappropriately select neutral. This recall was issued on 12 September.
