Aprilia Provides Update on Jorge Martin’s Condition
Aprilia MotoGP boss Paolo Bonora has provided an update on Jorge Martin’s condition, with the world champion set to undergo surgery on Friday
Aprilia’s preparations for the 2025 MotoGP campaign took a big hit on Wednesday as Jorge Martin suffered a huge highside at the Sepang test, and although surgery is now required, Aprilia sporting director, Paolo Bonora, has provided a positive update on his condition.
Martin suffered the brutal face plant at turn two which was his second fall of the day, and as a result suffered fractures to his right hand and left foot, which unsurprisingly have ruled him out of the test.
Martin will have surgery in Spain on Friday, but Bonora claims Martin “is fine” and that the team had to stop the former Ducati rider from going back out on the track following his monster crash.
The reigning world champion was taken to the medical centre straight after his fall on Wednesday, and his participation for the season opener in Thailand is now under threat.
Speaking to MotoGP.com, Bonora said: “To be honest, we’d like to see the positive things of this. First of all, we are happy that Jorge is fine today. He feels comfortable, he slept well tonight, and he didn’t have any kind of particular problem.
“So, we are happy about this because after that kind of crash everybody was thinking about him. So, we are happy. To be honest, the difficult thing yesterday was to keep him calm because he wanted to rejoin the track, he wanted to know how the test is going on, what we are testing.
“So, it was funny because his recovery was so good. Tomorrow he will have the surgery in Spain. Now we are only waiting for the medical examination and the official statement from them.”
With Martin and Trackhouse Racing rider Raul Fernandez also out of the test, Aprilia’s participation has been heavily restricted with Marco Bezzecchi, rookie Ai Ogura and test rider Lorenzo Savadori doing all the testing on Thursday.
