British Superbike Rider Out Of Final Round With “Substantial” Injury
Christian Iddon will not complete the 2024 British Superbike season after being ruled out of the final round due to a nasty injury
Christian Iddon will not ride his Ducati Panigale V4 R at the final BSB round of 2024, following a nasty injury which has caused serious damage to his foot.
The season-finale will take place at Brands Hatch and Iddon will miss it after suffering his nasty injury in race three of the previous round at Donington Park.
Iddon was involved in an incident with Kawasaki rider Jason O’Halloran, suffering a foot injury that now needs “a pretty comprehensive reconstruction.”
Iddon felt like he was becoming an outside threat for the title prior to his BSB Showdown injury, but the Oxford Products Ducati rider subsequently dropped to sixth in the standings.
Iddon could yet lose sixth to Lee Jackson, but the British rider is focusing on his recovery which will involve surgery today.
Iddon said on his social media: “And just like that my 2024 season is over. The accident at Donington caused far more substantial damage than was feared and I now require a pretty comprehensive foot reconstruction which should be completed today.
“I was sure I would be back racing at the final round because I always manage it somehow but unfortunately it just isn't possible given the nature of this injury. It's difficult to comprehend the situation and I'm sorry to the team, my sponsors and all my supporters.
“Just a few rounds ago I felt we were a genuine and credible title threat. Since then we've had a rough run and I was desperate to end the year on a high but to end like this really hurts.
“I'll still attend Brands to support Ben and the team and to see all the incredible BSB fans.”
The BSB title fight will likely come down to Kyle Ryde or Tommy Bridewell, although Ducati’s Glenn Irwin is still in the fight following his race three win at Donington Park last time out.
