The former head of Suzuki Motors, Osamu Suzuki, has passed away over the Christmas period.

While you’d be forgiven for assuming that Osamu-san was an original member of the founding Suzuki family, he actually married into the firm, choosing to take his wife's name. His spouse, Shoko Suzuki, was the granddaughter of Michio Suzuki, the man who founded one of the world’s biggest automotive brands.

Born in 1930, Osamu-san graduated from Chuo University in 1953, joining Suzuki in 1958, some 50 years after the company was founded - then as Suzuki Loom Works. Swiftly rising through the ranks, he was appointed as Director in 1963, and from then until 2021 always held the posts of either Director, Chairman, or President. In 2021, Osamu-san stepped back from life at the head of the company, instead taking up the role of a senior advisor.

One of the people he would have been advising in this role is Toshishiro Suzuki, his son. Toshishiro-san is the current President & Representative Director at Suzuki Motor, a position he’s held since 2016.

Osamu Suzuki passed away on Christmas Day at 3:53 PM. The cause of death is noted as being a Malignant Lymphoma.

All at Visordown send our best wishes to his family and friends.
