Start your back garden MotoGP series with the Bonhams Autumn Sale this weekend
It’s the Bonhams Autumn Sale this weekend, and alongside some spectacular motorcycles are five genuine MotoGP bikes! Here are some picks of the weekend.
Ever wanted to have your own private fleet of race-spec bikes, ex MotoGP machinery and TT bikes? Nows your chance. The Bonhams Autumn Sale is this weekend starting on the 9th of October, and alongside these spectacular top shelf items are some once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, and a few… oddities, to say the least.
Heading the interest for fans of two-wheeled racing, the Phil Morris Road Racing collection is a stable of 24 scarcely seen racing motorcycles ranging from TT bikes to MotoGP weapons, with the entire fleet of five Aprilia’s from the days of the Paul Bird Motorsport Team used over the CRT era between 2012-2014 up for grabs.
From the Bonhams site that explores the MotoGP grid that has formed in the auction house: “three are to full Moto GP specification and include the number 1 and number 2 motorcycles from the 2014 season which, according to Phil Morris, "would have cost €850,000 per bike when new.”"
Elsewhere, there is the Hans Schifferle Collection, comprised of some genuinely spectacular motorcycles including the effervescent Ducati 916 SPS from 1997, which will make many a tinkle fizz for a guide price between £6,000 - £9,000.
Genuine delights at the Bonhams Autumn Auction sale
There’s also a 1974 Ducati 750SS estimated between £90,000 - £130,000 if you’ve got a bit more cash for fizzing activities - also the highest guide price of the entire auction, for obvious reasons.
The German Film Critic clearly had an exceptional taste in bikes, as there’s also a 1973 MV Agusta 750GT, 1955 Vincent 998c Black Knight & a couple of Indian Motorcycles (amongst others).
Rounding up some highlights, you’ll find an ex Barry Sheene 1979 Dunstall Suzuki GS1000 Formula 1 Racing Motorcycle, the last Commando Norton sold by Andover Norton, a 1989 Suzuki RG500 Gamma with 2 push miles from new, and a few Vincent Water Scooter boats.
If you’ve got 5 minutes and want to be swooning over more, head to the Bonhams auction page and sort by value high-to-low. There’s some ridiculous stuff on offer, far too much to name and plenty that I’ve missed.
Just don’t blame me when you sell yourself a dream without having the funds to back a retro MotoGP racing championship in your back garden. By all means, let me know if you decide to run the series, we’ll get a Visordown team together and enter your garden cup!
If interested in throwing some bids in, make sure you register before the auction starts!
