Loris Capirossi Auction Includes Bikes and Memorabilia

Former Ducati and Suzuki MotoGP racer, Loris Capirossi, is auctioning a collection including his bikes, race leathers, helmets and other memorabilia to raise money for charity.

The auction, which is live now on the website Catawiki, and to say it includes an eclectic mix of the likeable legends’ belongings is a sweeping understatement! In total there are ten lots in the auction, and bidding is open now and doesn’t close until Sunday, September 8. Obviously, some of the lots are quite pricey, although there are a few that are within the reach of us mortals, just! We aren’t going to list the full auction, although here are the highlight lots, regardless of price.

Arlen Ness Race-Worn Leathers

In 2011, Capirossi was racing for the satellite Pramac team riding a Desmosedici GP11 in what would become his final season racing in the premier class. After three seasons racing for Suzuki, which was crowned by a podium at Brno, Capirossi seemed to struggle to get to grips with the beastly Ducati, eventually ending the season with a best finish of 9th.

1969 Vespa 144cc Prototype

One eye-catching two-wheeled offering is the 144cc Vespa built by Denys Maiorino "the Boss of Vespas". The bike is a special edition, with Maiorino only building 10 examples. Capirossi’s bike is number 00, the first prototype to be completed. Its spec includes a reinforced frame, Bitubo gas shock absorbers, tubeless detachable rims shod with Continental racing tyres, and a Dexter disc brake kit among other features.

Honda CR500 R Prototype

The final pick of the auction for us is a frankly bonkers CR500 R creation. Built by Rappa Racing, the bike started life as a CRF 450R Fiftieth Anniversary edition, and from there, it all gets a bit crazy. The frame has been extensively modified to accept the two-stroke engine, which was sourced from a late 1990s bike and then thoroughly rebuilt. It also features a custom exhaust and airbox to suit the new engine, modified electronics, suspension, and a specific throttle.
