Jawa Perak bobber announced
Indian based Jawa has announced the Perak, a 350cc, 30hp bobber
DUE to be released at the beginning of the year, the Jawa Perak has had a tricky start to life, with supply chain issues holding back its launch till now.
Looking like a slimmed-down version of Triumph’s successful 1200cc Bobber, the new machine features a tubular frame, with a suspended seat unit housed above the rear mono-shock. The rear-end does a good job of imitating a hardtail setup, with most of the suspension system being well hidden from view.
The Perak has a 334cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor that puts out 30hp and 31Nm of torque. The air-cooled single-cylinder unit is mated to a six-speed gearbox. The frame is a double-cradle frame, with telescopic front forks and rear monoshock unit, tucked neatly under the single seat. The braking system is single disc front and rear with two-channel ABS as standard.
If the machine was to come to the UK, it’d probably be one of the more attractive classically styled A2 licence machines around, with it’s Indian RRP equating to just over £2,200. Any bike’s sold here would obviously be adjusted to include export/import costs and be taxed appropriately – but still a sub £4k A2 classic machine like this is a tantalising prospect!
Who are Jawa Motorcycles?
JAWA is a motorcycle and moped manufacturer founded in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1929 by František Janeček, who bought the motorcycle division of Wanderer. The name JAWA was established by concatenating the first letters of Janeček and Wanderer. In the past, especially in the 1950s, JAWA was one of the top motorcycle manufacturers and exported its 350 into over 120 countries. The best-known model was the 350 Pérák and in the 1970s the 350 Californian.
In October 2016, Mahindra & Mahindra, through its subsidiary Classic Legends Private Limited (CLPL), signed a licensing deal to launch motorbikes under the JAWA brand name in India and some other East Asian countries. In November 15, 2018, the Classic Legends launched three motorcycles in India: Jawa 300, Jawa 42 and Jawa Perak. They are manufactured in Pithampur.
