KTM 790 Adventure-based CFMoto 800MT confirmed for UK sale
The KTM 790 Adventure-based CFMoto 800MT is set to go on sale in the UK during the summer of 2022 with prices starting under £10,000
CFMoto has confirmed its new adventure touring motorcycle, the CFMoto 800MT, will begin sales in the UK in June 2022 following a positive reception at Motorcycle Live.
The firm is one of several Chinese manufacturers looking to break out of the more familiar low capacity motorcycle and scooter mould with a range of good value big motorcycle alternatives, a tactic that led to the launch of its well received CFMoto 700CL-X Heritage earlier in the year.
Now CFMoto is gunning for the adventure market with the CFMoto 800MT, a model that has been on sale in Europe since the summer but will now cross the channel for UK consumption ‘around June 2022’.
Utilising its close ties with Austrian manufacturer KTM, the CFMoto 800MT is based around the running gear of the discontinued KTM 790 Adventure, a method that means it will undercut nearly all of its rivals significantly at a starting cost of (approx) £9,500 - around £2,000 less than the current KTM 890 Adventure R.
Two trim levels will be offered - the entry-level Sport and the Touring - with CFMoto promising a loaded equipment list to include three-piece aluminium luggage, a four-year warranty, cruise control, cornering ABS and a full colour TFT dashboard with GPS and Bluetooth connectivity.
Unlike its donor, the CFMoto 800MT swaps out WP for KYB suspension and J.Juan braking system, while the design has been completely overhauled with the machine more in-keeping with the updated CFMoto range with its slender, high-set front-headlight cluster and chunky bodywork.
Under the skin, the CFMoto 800MT makes use of the trusty 799cc twin-cylinder engine from the KTM, kicking out 95hp at 9,000rpm and 77Nm of torque at 7,500rpm.
Both models will come with riding modes, while the Touring will be offered for more long distance riders and is distinguished by its gold rims.
The CFMoto 800MT is the second adventure motorcycle to spin off from the KTM platform, though the other model - the Husqvarna Norden 901 - is based on the current KTM 890 Adventure R.
The 800MT is the latest in what is expected to be a string of new models from the Chinese firm, with the second iteration of its new CL-X range - the Sport - set to go on sale within the next few months too, plus potentially a production version of the CR-21 sportsbike presented at EICMA.
