Akrapovic has introduced three new exhaust systems for the Yamaha R9, including a stainless steel system for track use only.

The lightest and most performance-focused option out of the new Akrapovic exhausts is the Racing Line (Titanium) track-only variant. This system replaces the entire exhaust with stainless steel headers and a titanium muffler, leading to a reduction in weight while also delivering more power and torque.

According to Akrapovic, improvements of 2.2kW (roughly 3bhp) at 10000rpm and around 1.5Ib ft of torque at 9500rpm have been made with this new system. For those looking to ride the R9 on the road as well, Akrapovic also offers a Euro 5+ compliant version of the Titanium Racing Line exhaust.

The street-legal version still gets the same high-quality construction as the track-only model, and it too is a full system. A considerably better sound than the stock exhaust, the street-legal version is not as loud as the track option.

Finally, for track riders wanting to reduce noise levels while maintaining a punchy sound aboard their R9, Akrapovic is offering a stainless steel link pipe that includes a built-in resonator. It has been developed to work with the Racing Line exhaust system but there's a catch with this one too, as it’s only legal for competition.

When the R9 landed towards the end of 2024, ready to hit dealers in 2025, intrigue was incredibly high as it received the brand’s notorious CP3 engine while the bike was also built around a frame similar to the one found in other CP3 models such as the XSR900 GP.

The frame of the R9 also sets the record for being the lightest item ever used on a Yamaha supersport model at just 9.7kg. The R9 has a claimed wet weight of 195kg, 5kg less than the XSR900 GP.

One of the most striking features of the new bike is its R1-derived front fairing, which makes the new R9 the first Yamaha road bike on sale in the UK to gain aerodynamic winglets.
