WORLD renowned motocross rider, Nascar racer and now Triumph development rider Ricky Carmichael has been putting the new Tiger 1200 prototype through its paces.

Now part of the family at Triumph (he’s helping to develop their dirt and enduro range) Triumph obviously saw this as a prime opportunity to let the GOAT swing a leg over their latest and greatest big-bore adventure bike.

Filmed across the pond, the video features Carmichael hitting the road, before turning off down wide, stretching tracks before arriving at what can only be described as a dirt-bike playground!

What do we know about the new Triumph Tiger 1200…

It’s slimmed down, a lot! In fact, Ricky even alludes to significant weight loss in the video, refer to the bike as a “Tiger 900 on steroids!”. Just how much it’s shed in the offseason remains to be seen, although the new bike is much more svelte, with trim bodywork and a much more purposeful stance.

Engine-wise, the big Tiger is joining the T-plane revolution and will be following in the footsteps of the Tiger 900 with the best of both worlds powerplant. Specifics around power and torque are as yet unknown, and while it would be nice to dream of a Multistrada V4 equalling 170bhp, the chances are slim. The Tiger 900 saw a small increase in power, but a big increase in overall rideability and feel off-road. We’d expect Triumph to be following the same mantra with this new build.
