RETURNING to UK roads in 2022 is the stylish Honda CB300R, a stylish A2 compliant naked, with improved neo-retro styling, upgraded chassis, and a slip and assist clutch for 2022.

Out of the limelight for a year now, the plucky upstart is back and looking better than ever with its baby CB1000R styling and colour schemes.

2022 Honda CB300R chassis

The big news on the chassis front is the introduction of top-spec Showa Big Piston Forks (BPF). The USD items, added to the bike’s near 50/50 distribution and featherweight 144kg ready to ride weight, should make the CB300R a delight to ride on the road.

Matched to the suspension is a Nissin 4-piston caliper and 296mm disc at the front, and a single-piston caliper and 220mm disc at the rear. The system is governed by a trick IMU, which meters the braking power front and rear for improved performance in all conditions.

The frame of the Honda CB300 R is a minimalist tubular and pressed steel diamond-style frame. The swingarm is manufactured from a steel plate and features an irregularly shaped cross-section. The design offers high longitudinal rigidity, while also controlling torsion from wheel deflection.

2022 Honda CB300R styling and tech

The stripped-back styling of the CB300R remains for 2022, although the new colours on offer, particularly the CB1000R-alike black on black option, make the most of the bike's diminutive dimensions.

The seat now features a new covering material, while the LED lights and overall styling remain the same as the previous model.

A wafer-thin dash conveys the vitals to the rider, including speed, engine rpm, fuel level, and gear position (now highlighted in its own) in a classy-looking reverse LCD form. Warning lights are arranged across the top. The headlight uses a dual-bar light signature, upper for low beam and lower for high beam and the taillight is extremely thin.

2022 Honda CB300R engine

Powering the 2022 Honda CB300R into 2022 is a 286cc, DOHC, 4-valve, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. The unit is much the same as the previous generation in terms of output meaning we have a peak power of 22.9kW (31bhp) arriving @ 9,000rpm, with peak torque of 27.5Nm (20lb-ft) delivered @ 7,750rpm.

One major update for the 2022 model is the inclusion of an assisted slipper clutch, to aid light-footed and fingered gear changes, while reducing the tendency for the rear wheel to ‘hop’ during heavy downshifts.
