Quadrophenia Lambretta GP200 up For Auction
The bike is the screen-used item ridden by Phil Davis’ character ‘Chalky’ in the film Quadrophenia
A genuine screen-used bike from one of the most famous UK motorcycle films is up for auction, as ‘Chalky’s’ Lambretta GP200 from Quadrophenia is up for grabs.
The bike is stated to be the ‘real deal’ machine as used in the movie and ridden by the well known film and TV actor Phil Davis. Davis is one of the leading actors in the 1979 ‘rock opera’, and the bike his character Chalky rides, complete with fluffy headlight surround, long-arm mirrors and faux-leopard skin seat cover, is certainly one of the most recognisable!
The machine played a part in one of Quadrophenia’s most memorable moments, as the ‘Mod’ Chalky enters Brighton only to be run off the road by rival ‘Rockers’, with the GP200 and him crashing into some bins in what is noted in the script as ‘Scene 66 - Road to Brighton’.
Included with the sale of the bike is an original ticket to the premier of the film which took place at The Plaza in Regent Street, London on 16 August 1979. The bike was also in attendance at the premiere, as it was ridden there by the vendor of this sale once filming had finished and the bike had been spruced back to life - it was apparently quite tatty and with parts missing once filming had finished!
Speaking about the sale, Paul Diamond, scooter specialist at H&H Classics, said:
“It’s an absolute joy to be able to offer Chalky’s scooter for auction. Lambrettas are the ultimate symbol of the Mod scene and this very special example is also one of the main scooters in an iconic British movie which gets more popular every year.
“It’s a piece of bona fide film history and will have strong appeal to Quadrophenia fans and the countless scooter enthusiasts around the world.”
Chalky’s Lambretta GP200 is heading over the auction block at the H&H Classic’s Vintage Scooter Auction on 30 October 2024. The guide price is between £9,000 and £11,000.
