BSB's Doug Barnfield killed in road accident

DOUG BARNFIELD the General Manager of the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board, died in a multi-vehicle road traffic accident yesterday (6th April) while riding his Harley-Davidson on the A45 near to his home in Daventry. He was 63.

Doug played a key role in the formation of the MCRCB back in 1995 when the circuits took control of the British Superbike Championship, re-launching it as the country's premier racing series. As such he drew up the rules and regulations and was the driving force behind the organisation of the events.

A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Police said the road was closed for about four hours between 10.30am and 2.30am while the vehicles were recovered.

She added: "Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the A45 between Daventry and Braunston. The collision occurred at around 10.25am and involved three vehicles, a black Harley-Davidson, a black Ford Ka and a white Ford Transit van."

Anyone with information about either accident can call police on 08453 700700, the Drivewatch hotline on 0800 174615 or text 07765 637201.

Our thoughts are with Mr Barnfield's widoe Carol and his family.
