2019 MotoGP season concludes with Marc Marquez on top
The 2019 MotoGP World Championship season is officially over as the teams and riders prepare for 3 months off before resuming at Sepang in February
Marc Marquez ended the final day of 2019 MotoGP action as he spent much of it by topping the timesheets on a damp Tuesday in Jerez.
The Spaniard went quicker than he managed on Monday with his session-leading time set early in the morning but forecast rain ultimately emerged to cast a literal cloud over the very final track action of the year with many teams packing up early.
Marquez’s top time came on the day he revealed he will head into the winter needing surgery on his shoulder after aggravating it in a crash on Monday. Though not a serious complaint now, the preventative measure is intended to avoid any future complications.
Alex Rins and Joan Mir continued Suzuki’s eye-catching testing form with the second and third best times of the day, ahead of Maverick Vinales, who ultimately topped the combined timesheets with his leading lap on Monday.
With most riders keeping their track running to only 15 laps or less, a few riders headed out in the wet afternoon session to work on wet set-up with Bradley Smith putting in the most miles for the Aprilia Racing team.
MotoGP teams and riders now take a time out over the winter period to convalesce before the countdown to the 2020 MotoGP season officially gets underway with testing at Sepang in February.
