Hopkins in the spotlight for LCR Honda
Anglo-American BSB star is hot property right now
JOHN Hopkins is back under the MotoGP spotlight, this time with interest from LCR Honda team owner, Lucio Cecchinello.
The speculation on Italian website GPOne.it suggests that HRC want Repsol rider Andrea Dovizioso to move to the LCR Honda squad as the Repsol team are unlikely to run a three-man team in 2012.
However, Dovizioso is rumoured to cost 3.5 million Euros a season, a cost that Cecchinello says he would not be able to take on without further support from sponsors or HRC.
That's where Hopkins fits in. Speaking to the press, Cecchinello said: "I am in contact with John Hopkins. In Brno he was quick on the Suzuki once again and he is supported by Monster. I would like to see him ride for me."
On signing with Samsung Crescent Suzuki earlier in the year, Hopkins said: “I wouldn't be coming to BSB if I didn't think I could be successful and I think it will be a better stepping stone for my future."
Hopkins' career has flourished under his contract with Suzuki in BSB. It's clear that Hopkins wants back in to the top flight however it's unlikely Suzuki will want to give him up - but everyone has their price.
