Motorcycle sales are trending back in the right direction as March sees considerable improvement compared to the first two months of 2025.

A new data report from the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA), has confirmed that motorcycle sales numbers for March were over eight per cent better than January and February, with the research taking into account mopeds, scooters, motorcycles and other L-Category vehicles.

New registrations for March remained down compared to 2024, with a total of 13,086 new machines registered. While the numbers are promising as the weather begins to improve across the UK, sales came in at -22.1 per cent year-on-year, while January and February were both over 30 per cent down compared to 2024.

Competition Bikes were the standout sellers, being just 3.1 per cent down, as well as modern classic bikes, which were down to -10 per cent.

The numbers are still far from where dealers and manufacturers would want them to be, but March proved to be positive nonetheless, following two very lacklustre months at the start of 2025.

Tony Campbell, CEO of MCIA, said: “As we move into the main selling season, the March market has started to show the expected signs of recovery, as the pre-registered stock starts to sell through the networks.

“Looking ahead to April (and with the weather on our side), we forecast the new bike market to return close to the volumes seen in previous years, provided the unfolding trade war does not worsen over the next few weeks.

“Consumer confidence is already low, and with the added economic uncertainty worsening by decisions being taken across the pond, it is difficult to predict how our sector and market will eventually react.

“The Motorcycle market has historically performed well during challenging economic times as it provides affordable mobility and attracts a loyal and passionate customer base.

We are calling on the UK Government to make every effort possible to secure a speedy, workable trade arrangement with the U.S so as to avoid further damage to the wider economy.”
