Spanish MotoGP FP3 Results: Quartararo record as Rins, Marquez argue

Fabio Quartararo turned in a new lap record at Jerez as he rose to the fore in the Spanish MotoGP FP3 session, while Alex Rins missed out on the Q2 cut after getting caught up with his old foe Marc Marquez.

Only 15th quickest at the end of FP2 after losing track time in the quicker FP1 session yesterday, Quartararo quickly stamped his mark on proceedings when it mattered in FP3 to set a record 1min 36.860s lap on the Petronas SRT Yamaha.

Even so, he was chased hard by Jack Miller, who consolidated his status as Ducati’s fastest representative this weekend so far with second quickest, a tenth down on Quartararo.

Joan Mir turned in the third fastest time as the only Suzuki rider to make it into Q2, though he might have been joined by Alex Rins had the Spaniard not seemingly been blocked  by Marc Marquez, who pulled across him on the racing line despite not being on a quick lap, prompting some furious gesticulation from his rival.

Marquez himself was fourth, ahead of Maverick Vinales, Cal Crutchlow, Franco Morbidelli, Valentino Rossi, Pecco Bagnaia and Andrea Dovizioso.

Having had three riders inside the top ten after FP2, no KTM rider made it through, while Aleix Espargaro was the best placed Aprilia rider in 16th.
