One of the most highly-anticipated bikes to land in world championship racing for some time, the new Yamaha R9 will be used by several teams in the 2025 World Supersport series and we’ve been given a glimpse at what it looks like by one of them.

Released in October last year, Yamaha’s new R9 takes over from the popular and very successful R6 in the supersport class, and Ten Kate, one of the most recognisable teams in the championship, will be involved in its debut after continuing its partnership with the Japanese company in 2025.

A mainstay at Ten Kate Racing and aboard a Yamaha, Stefano Manzi will be one of the team’s two riders competing with the R9, as will new team-mate Yuki Okamoto who is a rookie in World Supersport this season after moving across from Japan where he claimed the All Japan Road Racing JSB1000 championship last season.

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team manager, said: “We are very proud to present the new Yamaha YZF-R9 in the 2025 livery today, together with Yamaha Motor Europe. It’s a great project and as Ten Kate Racing we are happy to take on this adventure with our existing but also some new partners.

“The new bike has already shown great potential during winter testing so we are looking forward to heading to Australia, where we will have our first real test of 2025. Thank you to all our partners, sponsors and others who have made this all possible. We are heading to Phillip Island very well prepared. Besides the development of the R9, we will also be able to apply a number of innovations from the Motonext project, more on this later.”

Ducati was one of the more recent manufacturers to introduce an all-new bike for the supersport category (Panigale V2) and it achieved immediate success thanks to Nicolo Bulega and Adrian Huertas, both of whom won titles in the last two years. Yamaha will be hoping for similar success as it begins its new journey with the R9.
