Watch in Slow Motion As MotoGP Bike Suffers Weirdly Mesmerising Vibrations
Fabio Quartararo endured a tough day of practice on Friday at Phillip Island, not less because his M1 Yamaha was seen hopping like a Kangaroo
Fabio Quartararo was seen dealing with dramatic vibrations on the opening day of the Australian Grand Prix.
The 2021 MotoGP world champion ended the only session of the day - Free Practice one was cancelled due to heavy rain and poor track conditions - in 11th place directly behind team-mate Alex Rins.
Quartararo’s day got off to an unnerving start when championship leader Jorge Martin nearly clattered into him on the run to turn four. Quartararo was narrowly avoided by the Ducati rider who crashed.
Then, Quartararo suffered huge vibrations on the rear of his Yamaha M1 before returning to the garage and giving the team an earful.
Vibration on a MotoGP bike is nothing new as these riders push the boundaries of their talent and what the bike is capable of. But this was as extreme as it gets and the Frenchman looked like he was piggybacking a kangaroo instead of riding a 270bhp MotoGP machine.
Speaking at the end of the day, Quartararo said: “It was a more than tricky Practice session. At this track, you need a lot of laps to really find the limit. We could have used some more laps to get to the 100 per cent, but we were really close to Q2 in the end, and I felt quite good.
"I'm feeling better than two weeks ago in Japan, but we need to improve in the last sector here and especially in the last corner. Let's see what happens tomorrow. If it doesn't rain, we can maybe have some more grip from the tarmac, which can help. I think we have the possibility to go into Q2 tomorrow."
As a result of missing out on the top ten, Quartararo will have to face Q1 on Saturday morning while team-mate Rins is directly through to Q2 at a circuit where he won in 2022 with Suzuki.
